A 52-year-old man arrested last week is accused of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.
According to Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports, William Clay Hall of 1794 Steens Road in Steens was arrested Dec. 6 at his residence at about 8 a.m. on a charge of statutory rape.
Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright said the investigation began in August.
“We had gotten a report from Aug. 31. The complainant reported that her 15-year-old granddaughter had engaged in sexual activity with Hall,” Wright said, noting the complainant found out from the girl and reported the incident happened at a relative’s house.
Investigators questioned the girl and brought the evidence before a Lowndes County grand jury, which indicted Hall in November.
Wright said the offense carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Hall was released Dec. 8 on a $50,000 bond. His initial court date is Feb. 13.
