The capital murder case of Cedric Cortez Whitley, of 20393 Egypt Road in Aberdeen, was continued by Circuit Court Judge Lee Coleman until next year.
Whitley, now 25, is accused of the October 2009 murder of former Lowndes County club owner Clarence “Big C” Trimble. Sylvester N. Johnson, 23, of 1407 Cloverdale Place in Aberdeen, also is charged for the incident.
The new date for Whitley’s trial is May 14, 2012.
According to previous Dispatch reports, Wade Woods, 23, found Trimble, his cousin, at Big C’s Game Room the morning after the incident.
At the time, Woods said he was told of the murder by a relative, who was told by a family friend who knew Whitley and Johnson. According to Woods, one of the suspects called the family friend and told him about what happened.
Woods’ relative told him what happened and they went to the club on Stinson Creek Road to check on Trimble. Woods found Trimble’s body behind the bar.
Trimble, who also owned a tire shop in the area, was shot multiple times in the back of the head.
Authorities said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the club’s registers, but it is believed to be less than $100.
Investigators with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office later found .22 bullet casings at the scene. A .22 automatic pistol was one of two guns the LCSO recovered upon arresting Whitley and Johnson.
