Columbus police arrested two men Monday night on charges of misdemeanor drug possession.
It happened at around 11 p.m. in the parking lot of Ali’s Quick Stop at 1900 Main St. Police said it started as a traffic stop for erratic driving and ended with police uncovering stashes of marijuana and pills.
Police said Tyrone Davis Blevins, 34, of 298 Read Drive in Columbus, tried to run and Officer John Rice used a Taser and arrested him.
“The subject threw a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and some white pills in the roadway, and they were recovered,” interim Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen said.
One officer on scene said it potentially was Lortab, a prescription pain reliever, and Xanax, which is used to treat anxiety disorder.
Blevins was charged with two counts of controlled substance possession, marijuana possession and resisting arrest. Undre Terell Henley, 32, of 290 Robin St. in Columbus, was in the vehicle and was arrested on an outstanding warrant for contempt of court.
McQueen said the marijuana charge is a misdemeanor but the controlled substance charges are felonies.
