The Mississippi State University student accused of stabbing a fellow student had his bond reduced and will face an Oktibbeha County grand jury.
William Daniel Prince, 25, of 109 Locksley Way, Polo”s Apartments, was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing 21-year-old Joseph Ryan Davis in front of Rock Bottom in the Cotton District last Friday.
Defense attorneys Tommy Savant and Jay Perry waived Prince”s right to a preliminary hearing and the case has been bonded over to Oktibbeha County.
Prince”s bond was reduced from $500,000 to $50,000 on Wednesday. Prince”s bond was initially set at $500,000 by Municipal Court Judge Rodney P. Faver because he was unsure of Davis” condition.
As of Wednesday, Davis had not posted bond at Clay County jail.
Prince, his brother and a friend were inside Rock Bottom when they were asked to leave by security after “getting really bad vibes,” Rock Bottom manager Bart Lucius said. He said no altercation took place in the bar.
Lucius said Prince and his friends walked down the street in between Rock Bottom and another bar, Drifters, before returning and shoving a Rock Bottom security guard.
“That”s when Joey and another one of our friends jumped down to help the guard,” Lucius said. “I saw him get stabbed, and that”s when I went inside to call 911.”
Prince fled the scene on foot.
Starkville Police Department Chief David Lindley said they have not recovered the knife.
