Members of the public are asked to voice their thoughts Thursday night on the search for the new superintendent of the Starkville School District.
The school board voted in July to turn the search process over to the Mississippi School Board Association. The five-member school board will make the actual hiring decision, but the MSBA will conduct the search.
To begin that search, the MSBA is holding a series of stakeholder meetings to gather input from various groups on the qualities they would like the district”s next superintendent to possess.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of the Greensboro Center.
“All members of the Starkville community — including parents, elected officials, civic leaders and others — are encouraged to attend,” said Nicole Thomas, public information office for the school district. “The information gathered at the community meeting and a meeting of Starkville School District faculty and staff will be used to establish the criteria for the search.”
Earlier in the day, faculty and administrators will meet with MSBA representatives at 4 p.m., and support staff, including transportation, child nutrition and maintenance staff, will offer their input at 5 p.m.
School board members are asked not to attend these information-gathering meetings. The MSBA will provide a summary report to the school board for them to use as they establish criteria for the superintendent search.
Following the stakeholder meetings, the board intends to finalize criteria at their regularly scheduled board meeting on Sept. 6. They will then begin advertising for the position.
