BILOXI — A Mississippi State University architecture professor who helped in the coastal rebuilding effort after Hurricane Katrina is being honored today at the White House.
David J. Perkes of Biloxi is the founding director of the MSU Gulf Coast Community Design Studio, which is based in coastal Harrison County and is part the university”s School of Architecture.
The university says in a news release that the studio has provided planning and design for several affordable and sustainable housing initiatives.
Perkes is being honored as part of President Barack Obama”s Champions of Change initiative.
