Four adults and three children escaped a burning mobile home Wednesday night on Blackjack Road.
The interior of the 80-foot-long mobile home at 1437-B Blackjack Road caught fire shortly before midnight Wednesday. The adults and three children, ages 4, 7 and 11, were asleep inside when fire began but escaped without serious injury.
Firefighters from the East Oktibbeha and District 5 Volunteer Fire Departments made a quick, aggressive interior attack and were able to extinguish the fire with little more than 300 gallons of water. However, despite the quick operation, the living room and two bedrooms were destroyed while the remainder of the structure sustained heat and smoke damage.
Members of the Okitbbeha County Sheriff”s Office and OCH Regional Medical Center paramedics also assisted at the scene.
The fire was the third Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Services has battled in the past week. No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Residents are reminded to ensure smoke detectors are working, to be fire conscious and to have an established meeting place for family to gather outside of the home in the event of a fire.
