Erby nominated for U.S. Marshal post
President Obama has nominated Dennis J. Erby of Columbus to serve as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Mississippi.
Erby and other nominees have “dedicated their career to protecting their fellow citizens,” Obama said in a statement. “They have displayed courage and persistence in the pursuit of justice.”
Erby currently serves as a Supplemental Compliance Monitor for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Planning. He spent the majority of his law enforcement career with the Mississippi State Highway Patrol where he entered as a patrolman in 1978 and rose through the ranks to Lieutenant. Erby served in the Mississippi National Guard from 1974 to 1980. He holds a bachelor”s degree from Mississippi State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Galloway, Stafford make ”40 Under 40” list
Brandt Galloway, owner of Galloway Chandler McKinney Insurance Agency in Columbus, and Kevin Stafford, engineer manager in charge of Neel-Schaffer”s Columbus branch, were recognized this week in Mississippi Business Journal”s annual “40 Under 40” class.
“Most career experts would say the ideal characteristics an insurance agent must possess is they enjoy being around people and build relationships easily. If so, Brandt Galloway fits the profile perfectly,” the magazine said.
The magazine, which hit newsstands Monday, cited Stafford”s varied work as a civil engineer and engineer for the city of Columbus. “A typical day for Kevin Stafford is one that might be considered by most as atypical,” the magazine said.
Stafford and Galloway are both members of the Columbus Lowndes Development Link”s board of directors, and are members of the Link”s Trust Investors group.
Columbus native joins Treasury Department
A Columbus native has been named the new chief information officer of the U.S. Treasury Department.
Robyn Crossley East joined the Treasury Department from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she was the deputy CIO for more than six years.
She takes over a $3.1 billion IT budget for the department, one of the largest among the civilian agencies.
As the UNC deputy CIO, East managed the daily operations of the central information technology organization and was responsible for translating organizational strategy into operational objectives and divisional goals. She also developed and implemented IT policy, negotiated all major IT contracts, oversaw the information security program and the central IT business services.
