Columbus Municipal School District superintendent Del Phillips could know by tonight whether or not he will be offered a new job as director of the Sumner County Board of Education in Gallatin, Tenn.
Sumner County Board Chairman Don Long called a special meeting for 5 p.m. this evening at the board”s central office in Gallatin, The Hendersonville Star News in Tennessee reported Saturday night.
Phillips has been in contract negotiations with board members since last week, when they unanimously chose him in a “non-binding” straw poll as their top choice to head the 27,551-pupil district.
He will not be officially offered the position until negotiations are complete and the board votes on the contract.
It was unknown at press time whether contract negotiations have been finalized and a vote planned at tonight”s meeting. Neither Phillips nor Long have been available for comment.
Phillips, 39, took over as superintendent of the Columbus Municipal School District in June 2007.
