From packing up and moving to a new building to adding 320 students to her charge, it”s been a whirlwind school year for Cindy Wamble.
Monday afternoon, the year got more eventful, as she was named the Columbus Municipal School District Administrator of the Year.
“I”m very overwhelmed and very grateful for the honor,” Wamble said. “It”s a team effort, and I could not have moved and transitioned into this new building without the help of teachers and assistant principal and central office and the community. So I share all this with them.”
Columbus schools Superinten-dent Dr. Del Phillips, Columbus Mayor Robert Smith and CMS students surprised Wamble with the honor.
“I was totally shocked,” said Wamble. “I was surprised to say the least. And to have my students there — I”m very close to my students, care about them and they have definitely been the reason I have been as successful as I have.”
“Mrs. Wamble is an exceptional administrator with high expectations for students,” said CMS librarian Jamie Davidson. “She knows our students and has a very special bond with them. Our students recognize she truly cares about them and expects them to do their very best.”
Wamble has been with Columbus schools for 23 years; her career in education is just shy of three decades. During her career, Wamble has worked as a teacher, administrator and curriculum coordinator for schools in Baton Rouge, La., Quitman and Columbus.
“It”s always rewarding to someone in their field when you receive an award like this. It says you”re doing a good job and you appreciate that,” Wamble said.
“Mrs. Wamble is an outstanding administrator and very deserving of this recognition,” Phillips said. “Under her leadership, the middle school has seen enrollment and academic growth. She has skillfully led her team during the recent merger of two schools and facilities while maintaining a strong instructional focus.”
