Fifty new steel-working jobs are up for grabs.
Two processing companies located on the Severstal campus, New Process Steel and Mississippi Steel Processing, are looking to fill their rosters and begin working at full capacity in the near future.
Jim Wilson, director of operations at New Process Steel, said the company has already begun filling 30 available positions. The majority of those jobs will be filled with local workers “if the talent exists in the Columbus area.”
“We are looking for steel slitter crew members, material handlers with overhead crane experience and forklift experience, maintenance personnel with heavy equipment experience and people that have both shipping and receiving skills,” he said via e-mail. “Our focus is the local economy. It is our goal to hire as many as possible from the Columbus area.”
New Process has teamed with Wise Staffing Group, which has posted openings on careerbuilder.com, and the Key Staff Source agency to identify candidates. Individuals with experience in steel processing, particularly slitting, will be given preference but some employees with basic mechanical aptitude will be trained.
Applicants must possess at least a high school diploma or GED. Maintenance people must have additional training in hydraulics, electrical maintenance and the repair of heavy machinery.
Mississippi Steel Processing will take on approximately 20 more employees over the next two weeks before beginning operations in early March. The company will perform slitting and leveling on steel coils received from Severstal.
Job seekers can apply at the company”s website, mssteelpro.com, or through the CPI Group in Columbus.
Plant Manager Mike Balk said the company is seeking handlers, crane operators and forklift operators in addition to clerical positions.
Applicants should have experience in material handling or manufacturing in addition to a high school diploma or GED.
