A Lowndes County woman and teen were burned Saturday morning when the car they were driving “exploded.”
Kimberly Diane Watkins, 40, and Taylor Nicole Watkins, 16, both of Jess Lyons Road in Lowndes County, were driving down Military Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. when the car exploded, according to Lowndes County Chief Deputy Greg Wright.
The vehicle left the road and came to rest near a duplex apartment at 4275 Military Road. Sheriff”s officials were unclear whether the car struck the building but the car burned out near the building causing significant structural damage.
Deputies arrived on the scene five minutes after the emergency call was received. Details are sketchy but officials considered calling a helicopter to airlift Kimberly Watkins from the scene.
The condition of both women is unknown. No charges have been filed in the incident, which remains under investigation.
