Thoughts

- Well into the second quarter, Mississippi State only threw when it had to -- at one point, two of its three pass attempts were on 3rd and 5 or longer. Ole Miss had a few moments of being better against the run in the second half and it was enough to make MSU think about its playcalling for a little bit, but ultimately, Ole Miss is going to need to do more against the run to win. MSU's run was still good enough to muster a second-half score or two and that would be the killshot with a defense like MSU's.

- I have a feeling the Ole Miss possession that ended in a field goal -- which came after Ole Miss moved the chains on fourth down once -- is going to be a big moment in this game. Scoring opportunities are not easy to come by against this defense, and when the opponent puts 14 points on the board real easy, you need to hit every chance you get.
