SOUTHERN MISS (7-5) VS. MISSISSIPPI STATE (10-1) AT MISSISSIPPI COLISEUM, JACKSON

BROADCAST INFO: The game is not being broadcast, but the MSU Radio Network will be there with Neil Price and Richard Williams.

SOUTHERN MISS' LAST 5: W 109-61 vs. Rust (DII), W 89-71 vs. Troy, W 69-54 at Alabama A&M, W 75-58 vs. William Carey, L 98-45 at Florida State.

MSU's LAST 5: W 61-59 vs. Dayton, W 95-62 vs. North Georgia, L 65-50 at Cincinnati, W 92-61 vs. UT Martin, W 64-48 vs. Little Rock.

SOUTHERN MISS' RESUMÉ: Four of Southern Miss' seven wins have come against sub-Division I teams, and two of the DI wins came against teams in the bottom 25 nationally according to KenPom. In its shots against top 100 teams (which MSU is, at 67), it hasn't necessarily been competitive: 14-point loss at Michigan, 13-point loss against South Dakota and a 53-point loss at Florida State just two before this game against MSU. I'd say the best showing for this team so far was the win over Troy on Dec. 10, but I can't help but wonder how much of that was fueled by 27 points from Dominic Magee and 23 from Tyree Griffin, guys that respectively average 11.4 and 14.6 points per game.

SOUTHERN MISS PROJECTED STARTERS

G 5 Tyree Griffin, R-Jr., 5'10", 175 -- 14.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.83 spg, almost never leaves the court (34.1 minutes per game).

G 1 Cortez Edwards, Jr., 6'2", 180 -- 16.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.9 spg, almost never leaves the court (34.9 minutes per game).

G 0 Dominic Magee, R-Jr., 6'4", 190 -- 11.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 17 steals in 12 games, the team's best defensive rebounder according to KenPom.

G 20 Kevin Holland, R-Jr., 6'7", 192 -- 7.7 ppg, 2.5 rpg, only attempted two free throws and made them both.

F 15 Eddie Davis III, R-Jr., 6'7", 248 -- 6.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, only 40 field goal attempts in 11 games and only started five times.

MISSISSIPPI STATE PROJECTED STARTERS

G 0 Nick Weatherspoon, Fr., 6'2", 195 -- 10.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.5 apg, 14 steals in 11 games, got his first offensive rebound of the season in his last game.

G 23 Tyson Carter, Soph., 6'4", 165 -- 11.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.1 apg, 16-18 from the free throw line, only eight personal fouls committed in 289 minutes this season.

G 11 Quinndary Weatherspoon, Jr., 6'4", 205 -- 14.5 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 4.5 apg, 18 steals in 11 games, gone for 20 or more points in three of his last four games.

F 35 Aric Holman, Jr., 6'10", 225 -- 12.5 ppg, 6.2 rpg (3 orpg), 15 blocks in 11 games, 59.3 percent 3-point shooter.

F 24 Abdul Ado, R-Fr., 6'11", 250 -- 6.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 26 blocks and 14 steals in 11 games, 25 rebounds in his last two games.

NOTES: KenPom gives MSU an 86 percent chance of winning this game with a projected final score of 71-59...Southern Miss did not have a single player score in double digits against Florida State and only one Eagle had more than four rebounds...Lamar Peters and Tyree Griffin played together in high school...Southern Miss is one of the nation's worst offensive rebounding teams according to KenPom (340th out of 351 Division I teams), but also one of the best at limiting offensive turnovers (14th in the nation).
