Gameday Capsule: Dayton at MSU

DAYTON (3-3) at MISSISSIPPI STATE (6-0) 

 

BROADCAST INFO: 7 p.m. on SEC Network (Courtney Lyle and Pat Bradley) in addition to Neil Price on the MSU Radio Network. 

 

DAYTON TO DATE: Dayton may have lost its only game against a team from a Power 5 conference -- 73-60 against Auburn four days ago -- but the rest of its non-conference schedule is respectable. Wins over Ball State, Ohio and Akron are balanced by losses to Hofstra and Old Dominion. 

 

DAYTON PROJECTED STARTERS 

 

G 15 John Crosby, Jr., 6'3", 197 -- 5.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 27 apg, played in all 32 games as a sophomore last season, 11-13 from the free throw line this year. 

 

G 1 Darrell Davis, Sr., 6'5", 170 -- 19.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.5 apg, went 4-13 from the floor against Auburn but got his points thanks to 8-9 free throw shooting. 

 

G 3 Trey Landers, Soph., 6'5", 224 -- 7.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1 apg, only three 3-point attempts this year. 

 

F 0 Josh Cunningham, R-Jr., 6'7", 233 -- 14.3 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 1.5 apg, Named in ESPN's Top 100 draft prospects, 22 offensive rebounds in six games. 

 

F 13 Kostas Antetokounmpo, R-Fr., 6'10", 197 -- 5.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.83 bpg, younger brother of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis.

G 0 Nick Weatherspoon, Fr., 6'2", 195 -- 12 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg, scored in double-digits in all six career games, 5-9 from the field in each of his last two games. 

 

G 23 Tyson Carter, Soph., 6'4", 165 -- 15 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.7 apg. 11-12 from the free throw line in his last three games, 76 percent on 2-point attempts ranks 27th in the nation. 

 

G 11 Quinndary Weatherspoon, Jr., 6'4", 205 -- 12.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 3-10 from 3 in his last three games, 10 assists in his last game. 

 

F 35 Aric Holman, Jr., 6'10", 225 -- 11.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.16 bpg, 8 offensive rebounds in his last two games (15 total). 

 

F 24 Abdul Ado, R-Fr., 6'11", 250 -- 8.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.6 bpg, 1 spg, season-low 14 minutes in the last game (fouled out). 

 

NOTES: KenPom gives MSU a 77 percent chance of winning this game...This is Dayton's first true road game after playing some neutral site games in the Charleston Classic...MSU's baseline defensive numbers are better than Dayton's: 6 steals per game and 6.5 blocks per game compared to 4.8 and 2.8 from Dayton...Dayton has owned SEC teams, winning 15 of its last 19 such meetings...MSU has been making history with its undefeated start, but it's going to have to keep it going for a while to reach the next milestone: the 2003-04 team started 13-0...Jalen Crutcher is a big bench piece for the Flyers: he's averaging 26.7 minutes per game without a start this year and is one of only four Flyers with 40 or more shot attempts this year.
