STARKVILLE -- After beating in-state rival Ole Miss 55-20 Saturday in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford in the Battle for the Golden Egg, Mississippi State football players Nick Fitzgerald and Leo Lewis were honored by the Southeastern Conference Monday.
Fitzgerald was named SEC co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Lewis was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
Fitzgerald accounted for 367 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. He had an MSU single-game school record 258 yards rushing on 14 carries and two touchdowns.
Lewis had six tackles (1.5 for loss) and one sack. The linebacker now has 72 tackles, the most by an freshman in the SEC.
