The Columbus Arts Council Board of Directors has named Elizabeth Johnson as interim executive director of the nonprofit organization.
Johnson, who has been serving as the president of the CAC board, will assume all duties of the director as the Columbus Arts Council continues its search for a permanent director.
Johnson has worked in the nonprofit sector serving as a fundraising professional at Mississippi State University and has several years experience in sales and marketing. She has also worked for the Bank of Vernon in business and economic development.
“I”m excited about the opportunity to serve the Columbus Arts Council during this time of transition,” Johnson said. “We continue to offer a wealth of classes and performances for the community, as well as host local and regional artists each month in our gallery. We are gearing up for an exciting spring with a myriad of events including a March 1 performance by The Second City Comedy Troupe at Trotter Convention Center, and our annual auction and gala March 26.
Organized in 1965, the Columbus Arts Council is located in The Rosenzweig Arts Center in downtown Columbus. It features a sales and exhibit gallery, classroom space and theater space.
The CAC offers arts-based community development programs, a Gallery Series, the Omnova Theater presenting local and regional productions, and the Young People”s Artist Series. A Concert and Artist Series brings in national and international performances, and the Art Underground is comprised of classes in everything from fiddle and digital photography to dance.
