Beginning in 2011, the Mississippi Theatre Association will award a $2,000 scholarship to a deserving high school senior who plans to pursue a theatre-related major at a Mississippi college or university.
With that goal in mind, MTA will hold a silent auction in conjunction with its 2011 festival Jan. 13-16 at the Riley Center in Meridian for the benefit of its scholarship fund. Each participating theatre group is encouraged to bring something representative of its particular part of the state to be auctioned off.
Meridian native Sela Ward has already committed to contributing several items. Organizers hope others will join her in the endeavor to build the scholarship fund to a sustainable level that will allow the association to offer scholarships for many years to come.
To make a contribution to the auction, contact MTA Treasurer Tom Hardy, of The University of Southern Mississippi, at [email protected], or Debbie Craig at [email protected].
