From blues to soul and rock ‘n’ roll, Memphis Jones delivers a Memphis-music experience to every audience. Jones’ high-energy infotainment is a weekly fixture at B.B. King’s Blues Club on world-famous Beale Street.
On Friday, Jan. 18, the Columbus Arts Council brings Jones and his band, The City Limits, to the Rosenzweig Arts Center Omnova Theater at 501 Main St. in downtown Columbus.
Moment-manufacturer, dot-connector, storyteller, encourager — all have been used to describe Memphis Jones.
“People need to hear him; he’s that good,” said Jan Miller, who first saw Jones perform in Tupelo at a conference in 2016 and recommended him to the Columbus Arts Council. Miller, of Columbus, is director of field services for Mississippi Main Street Association.
“He has such a gift of storytelling through his music,” Miller continued. “He knows so much, and he draws you in. I fell in love with him.”
To say Jones, a Memphis native, is passionate about his city’s music and its roots is an understatement. He shares that passion not only as a performer, but also by leading music and culture tours in his hometown, by emceeing festivals, hosting videos or interviewing Lisa Marie Presley. He can deliver a conference keynote address, work the K Love Awards Show or appear in Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau promos. Past clients have included Elvis Presley Enterprises, Graceland, MAST Travel Network, Mississippi Public Health Association and the American Advertising Corp.
Jones told The Dispatch, “Our band has traveled internationally together, and we’re excited to come to Columbus!”
“I love his style,” said Miller. “He’s got that cool factor. He can really sing and can really talk about music — and we love music here.”
