Door prizes, promotions and holiday merchandise will be showcased during the Downtown Christmas Open House in Columbus Friday through Sunday, Nov. 2-4. Retail businesses will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3, and nine downtown stores will be open from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 to offer extra Open House shopping hours.
"Each year, we anxiously await the arrival of the holiday season," said Main Street Columbus Executive Director Barbara Bigelow. "The holidays bring a special magic to the air, and the Christmas Open House is the first sign that the season has begun. Downtown shops will be festively decorated and you will find those special one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your holiday list."
Participating merchants will offer individual door prizes totaling more than $650. Shoppers may sign up at each business for chances to win. Drawings will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6; winners will be contacted by the businesses.
"The annual Christmas Open House is an exciting and unique opportunity for the many downtown merchants to show their products, including great food, clothing, hand-crafted furniture, gifts, jewelry, art and more," Bigelow said. "It is also a time when our community can show its support for small, local businesses which, in turn, helps to boost our local economy."
Bigelow urged Open House shoppers to visit downtown restaurants for lunch or dinner during the special weekend.
"You certainly don't want to miss out on this year's Open House, or any of our downtown holiday activities," she said.
Other seasonal events include the 2018 Holiday Farmers' Market on Saturday, Nov. 17; the Lighting of the Christmas Tree on Monday, Nov. 26 at the east end of the Old Highway 82 pedestrian bridge at the Riverwalk; Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 24; the Columbus Christmas Parade Monday, Dec. 3; and Wassail Fest on Friday, Dec. 7.
