MERIDIAN — The 18 Mississippi artists chosen for The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX) inaugural Hall of Fame class will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 16. The public will have two opportunities to join in the festivities.
The Hall of Fame Award Ceremony and reception will take place that evening at the Riley Center in downtown Meridian. The awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a cocktail reception.
The inaugural class members are Walter Inglis Anderson, William Faulkner, Morgan Freeman, John Grisham, Jim Henson, Robert Johnson, James Earl Jones, B.B. King, George Ohr, Elvis Presley, Leontyne Price, Jimmie Rodgers, Sela Ward, Muddy Waters, Tennessee Williams, Oprah Winfrey, Eudora Welty and Richard Wright.
Some of the inductees will be in attendance, along with the other inductees’ family members and representatives. Dress is cocktail attire, and tickets are $50. Call 601-581-1550 to purchase tickets or for more information.
Earlier the same day, six stars will be unveiled on The MAX’s Hollywood-style Walk of Fame. The artists receiving stars are John Grisham, Jim Henson, Robert Johnson, Leontyne Price, Muddy Waters and Richard Wright. Some honorees, their families and representatives will be in attendance. The presentation will take place at 1:30 p.m. across from Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian. This event is free and open to the public.
