Mississippi’s bicentennial is the theme of a postcard project organized by the Columbus Arts Council. Artists age 16 and older are invited to submit artwork inspired by the state’s celebration of 200 years of statehood. Selected entries will be printed on 4-by-6-inch postcards for the CAC. The deadline to submit images of artwork of any medium is 5 p.m. Aug. 31, or earlier if the 40-entry maximum is reached prior to Aug. 31. Each artist is welcome to submit photographs via CD or email for up to two pieces of 2D or 3D artwork; entry fee is $20.
The project celebrates not only the Magnolia State but also its artists in the Golden Triangle.
“The postcard project has two objectives, the first being a way to increase knowledge about the amazing artwork our artists do, and the second being a fundraiser for the CAC,” said Aislinn Noltie, CAC gallery coordinator. Printed postcards will be sold in the arts center gift shop, to benefit the nonprofit arts council.
Artists whose work is selected to be printed will be asked to submit a two-sentence artist statement. They will also receive five finished postcards of their choosing.
The Columbus Arts Council plans to feature all entered designs in an exhibit during the month of November in the Artist Alley Gallery at the Rosenzweig Arts Center. The public will be encouraged to vote for their favorite. The “People’s Choice” winner will be awarded five postcards of their choice and two tickets to a CAC concert.
“We’re really hoping to have an amazing turnout for this project and can’t wait to see the artwork that is submitted,” Noltie said.
