Teaching with Pizzazz, College and Career Readiness for Math and Active Classroom s are among the 50 online non-credit courses being offered through the Professional Learning Academy at Mississippi University for Women.
“The Professional Learning Academy is a great opportunity, especially for teachers because they receive quality professional development that is affordable and fits their schedule. Teachers today do not have the time to take a day from work to get professional development,” said April Barlow, interim associate director of Outreach & Innovation. “PLA allows them to stay up to date on the latest trends in education without causing the added stress of actually having to travel to receive the training.”
New classes typically start every Monday and last for six weeks. By completing the self-paced class participants can earn 2.0 CEUs, 1 OSL Module or 15 SEMIs. Courses can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any place with an Internet connection.
“Our online courses also are very helpful for those who may be exploring the possibility of new career options and want an introduction to a new field,” said Barlow. “With a minimal commitment, they can get exposure to new topics and new possibilities.”
Each course includes comprehensive lessons, quizzes, assignments and a discussion area, and instructors are available to answer questions, give feedback and encourage discussion.
Registration per course is $59 and is non-refundable. The registration fee includes CEU, OSL or SEMI certificate. Basic computer skills and high speed Internet are required. Alumni of The W receive a $10 discount.
