Mission Winds, the Clarinet Quartet of the United States Air Force Band of the West, will present a free performance Sunday, Oct. 16 in the Omnova Theater of the Columbus Arts Council’s Rosenzweig Arts Center in downtown Columbus at 3 p.m.
The quartet stationed at Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, Texas, is comprised of Eb, Bb and bass clarinets and is dedicated to exposing audiences to the total spectrum of today’s musical literature.
Members of the Mission Winds are full-time professional military musicians who bring diverse backgrounds and culture to the Air Force. They hold Music Education and Music Performance degrees from Augustana College, the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the University of North Texas.
The many years of professional experience include performances with symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, touring shows and today’s popular artists. Currently the ensemble performs for civilian and military audiences throughout the southern region of the U.S. in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. They also offer educational enrichment through clinics, master classes and performances for elementary through college-aged students.
