Main Street Columbus and the Columbus Arts Council are finalizing preparations for the fourth annual Art Walk Downtown in Columbus Thursday, Sept. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“The public is invited to join us for a festive evening as we showcase the work of area artists in businesses throughout historic Downtown Columbus,” said Main Street Columbus Executive Director Barbara Bigelow. “We are excited that so many of our downtown businesses are participating in this annual event, where visitors can purchase fine art, meet the artists, take advantage of in-store discounts and promotions and enjoy music in the streets provided by local entertainers.”
Watercolors, oil and acrylic paintings, woodworking, ceramics, jewelry, wood and tin plaques and bead work are among art that will be represented Thursday.
A sand art bottle activity for children in front of the Main Street Columbus office at 107 Fifth St. N. has been added to this year’s walk.
The arts council will also have a Peace Project mural board outside its location at 501 Main St. for participants of all ages to add to.
Participating businesses will serve light refreshments. Maps of business and artist pairings will be available at each location.
“Art Walk Downtown strives to make the public aware of the diversity and quality of art in our community,” said Columbus Arts Council Executive Director Tina Sweeten-Lunsford. “It is all about building relationships between artists, downtown businesses and the public.”
Art Walk Downtown is a cooperative effort among downtown businesses, local artists and musicians, the Columbus Arts Council and Main Street Columbus, all of which believe in the promotions of the arts, Bigelow said.
“It has been so much fun for the past three years and should prove to be even more eventful this year,” she added.
