The Columbus Arts Council invites area artists to submit digital images of their work for possible inclusion in a 2017 calendar.
Artists may submit digital photographs of up to two pieces of their work of any medium. Twelve total images will be selected for the calendar, which will measure approximately 5 1/4-by-4 1/2-inches and fit into a CD-sized case.
Submitted images of 2D or 3D artwork may be horizontal, vertical or square and are due at the arts council’s Rosenzweig Arts Center no later than Friday, Aug. 19 at 5 p.m.
Digital images should be named in this format: (LastName)_(FirstName)_(Title).jpg. Entry fee is $20, payable by cash or check.
Jonathan Cumberland, assistant professor in Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Art and Design, will act as juror for calendar selections.
Artists whose work is accepted will receive one free calendar and will be required to submit a 70- to 100-word biography/artist statement that includes information about the piece and the artist.
Artwork may be resized or cropped to fit the calendar sizing. The artist will have final approval.
Entry forms are available at columbus-arts.org/get-involved/artist-opportunities. Or pick one up at the Columbus Arts Council’s Rosenzweig Arts Center at 501 Main St.
Artists may drop off entry form, fee and CD with images at the arts center, or mail to Columbus Arts Council, P.O. Box 869, Columbus, MS 39703.
Accompanying exhibit
The arts council would like to exhibit all entered pieces of artwork during the month of September in the Artist Alley gallery at the Rosenzweig Arts Center. The public will be encouraged to vote for a favorite; the “People’s Choice” winner will be included in the calendar.
Calendar entrants who wish to display their original pieces should bring them to the Rosenzweig Arts Center Aug. 26-27, unless other arrangements are made with gallery director Aislinn Noltie. Depending on the number of entries, arts council staff may have to jury a smaller exhibit.
“The calendar project is an opportunity for the arts council to promote local artists through increased exposure,” said Noltie. “And the public will be supporting the arts council every time a calendar is purchased,” said Noltie.
