Mississippi University for Women’s Office of Campus Recreation wants to know “How Do You Rec?” as part of its National Recreation Day Mon., Feb. 22.
National Recreation Day is recognized by the National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association. The day was established to focus on the benefits of recreational sports, fitness activities and wellness programs. It also represents the founding day of the NIRSA.
“When we think about National Rec Day, we want to make it diverse and make it a day of rec,” said LeAnn Alexander, Campus Recreation director.
She added that their goal is to show the Columbus community and others that health and wellness is at the forefront of their mission.
There will be a total of three events that will be held at different times throughout the day.
n Noon — Fun walk around campus beginning in front of Stark Recreation Center;
n 4 p.m. — Volley ball on the Demonstration Field;
n 6:15 p.m. — Glow in the dark yoga in the aerobics studio
Participants who complete all three events, will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of Beats headphones by Dr. Dre. Participants will be given a punch card indicating that they have finished all events. Additionally, there will be other prizes given to attendees.
Campus Recreation is gearing up for upcoming events, including the Music Mania Homecoming 5K. Interested individuals may register at http://web3.muw.edu/recreation/specialevents/w5k.
