Twin Kennedy’s live performances have been described as “infectious,” “energetic” and “hand-clapping, toe-tapping” good times. The duo of twin sisters Carli and Julie Kennedy of British Columbia presents a show Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Columbus Arts Council’s Rosenzweig Arts Center Omnova Theater at 501 Main St. The sisters will also offer a workshop earlier that day at the arts center in downtown Columbus. That 1 p.m. session titled “Classical to Country” is open to youth and adults.
The classically-trained sisters specialize in a unique fusion of country, folk, jazz and classical music.
“These young ladies infuse their music with so much fun and energy,” said Columbus Arts Council Program Manager Beverly Norris. “I think they could play a funeral march and make the audience dance.”
With two EPs behind them as Carli and Julie Kennedy, the sisters released their debut LP as Twin Kennedy, “It’s a Love Thing,” in 2015. It earned a Western Canadian Music Award nomination. Their single “Secondhand Gold” was the Grand Prize award winner in the 2015 John Lennon Songwriting Contest Country category.
Tickets to the live show in Columbus are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, if available. Purchase tickets at the arts center Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., online at columbus-arts.org, or call the CAC, 662-328-2787.
The workshop
The Kennedy sisters’ workshop at 1 p.m. Feb. 6 will focus on performance skills, practice techniques, warm-up routines and more.
Singers, songwriters and musicians are encouraged to take part and bring their instruments, whether guitar, violin, wind instruments or others. A piano is provided on site.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for musicians young and older to work with professional performers who are talented instrumentally and vocally,” said Norris.
The Kennedys have indicated they will offer several workshop participants an opportunity to perform a number with them in the concert.
The workshop fee is $15. Registration is requested by Thursday, Feb. 4 by calling the CAC, 662-328-2787.
