On Friday, Sept.11 a special In Honor and Remembrance ceremony will take place in Columbus. WoodmenLife Chapter 54 will take part in a 2 p.m. observance to be held at St. Stephens United Methodist Church at 800 Tuscaloosa St.
The community is invited to the event which will include speakers and presentation of a flag and flag pole to St. Stephens. First responders, in particular, are encouraged to attend.
“WoodmenLife members and associates nationwide organize In Honor and Remembrance ceremonies each year,” said Joe Hendrix, president of Chapter 54. “These ceremonies give members, family and friends a chance to remember those lives that were lost on that tragic day.”
Representing WoodmenLife will be Leonard Smith of Columbus, Scottie Clark of Saltillo and Cynthia Baird of Tupelo. Handheld flags will be given to all in attendance.
WoodmenLife was founded in 1890 as a not for profit. Its more than 700,000 member customers nationwide share a commitment to family, community and country. Activities include participation in a youth program, disaster relief assistance and support for orphaned children. Since the In Honor and Remembrance program began in 2002, more than 2,400 ceremonies have been held around the country.
