OXFORD — The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, the award-winning music and literature program based in Oxford, is coming to Tupelo Saturday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The hour-long show will record its Tupelo performance at the Link Centre Concert Hall for a future air date on Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Admission is free; the public is invited.
Guests for the Tupelo show will be soul food cookbook author Caroline Randall Williams, poet/musician Tom Kimmel and local favorites, the Homemade Jamz Blues Band. The show is hosted by Oxford writer Jim Dees and the Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers, led by Memphis rockabilly guitarist, John Paul Keith.
Following the radio recording, Kimmel and Homemade Jamz will each perform additional brief sets.
About Thacker Mountain
The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour began in 1997. In addition to its weekly Oxford performances at Off Square Books on the Oxford square, the show has traveled to cities across the state including Jackson, Cleveland, Ocean Springs and the Neshoba County Fair. This will be the show’s first performance in Tupelo and the program’s crew is looking forward to it, according to producer, Kathryn McGaw York.
“Tupelo is right in our backyard and being so close to Oxford, we’re delighted to make new friends with our neighbors,” she said.
