The scalding heat of summer couldn’t slow down local Lowndes County 4-H Horse Club members from participating in the 2015 Northeast District and State 4-H Horse Shows in June. Lowndes 4-H team members Stacy Lynn Ryals, Laurie and Juliette Sallee, Preston and Dillon Harper, and Ella Shepherd competed in non-riding events such as the Junior 4-H Hippology contest, which identifies a youth’s knowledge of horse-related anatomy, tack and overall well-being. The team placed second in the Northeast District and third in the Northeast Regional Junior Horse Bowl contest.
Lowndes County youth also competed in riding events at the Northeast Regional 4-H horse show. Harlie Humbers placed first in Pony Halter, Pony Walk/Trot and in Horsemanship. She placed second in Pony English Walk/Trot and fifth in Showmanship.
Stacy Ryals placed first in Halter Mares on the regional level and first overall at the State 4-H Horse Championship in Jackson.
Madison Nevins placed second in the Pony Gelding Halter class at the regional show and fifth at the State 4-H Horse Championship in Jackson.
Macy Willcut placed fourth in Barrel Racing and eighth in the Stake Race at the regional horse show and 20th in Barrel Racing at the State Championship.
Lauren Revel placed 10th in Miniature Horse In Hand Over Fences and 11th in Miniature Horse In Hand Trail at the State Championship.
