East Mississippi Community College’s Manufacturing Technology & Engineering division held a graduation ceremony for 13 young participants in its Counseling to Career program, Friday at the Columbus Wendy’s on Highway 45. Wendy’s general manager Henrietta Johnson, whose daughter, Jalessa Bradford, is one of the program’s graduates, talked to the group about hard work and career advancement before treating the grads to a free meal.
The program provides four weeks of training in computers, interviewing and other employability skills at EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus before placing each participant with a local employer for 270 hours of work experience earning $7.50 per hour. Past employers who partnered with EMCC’s C2C program include Clay County Government, Noxubee School District, Sprint Mart, KGray Financial, Sunflower and others. Participants in the C2C program must be 18-21 years of age, unemployed and meet other selection criteria.
