Beginning Monday, Sept. 21, Mississippi State University will offer a limited-member series of 10 adult evening classes on the basics of playing the piano.
Taking place from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Monday, the special program is organized and coordinated by Jackie Edwards-Henry, university professor of piano and piano pedagogy.
Edwards-Henry will teach the first two classes. She then will supervise student teams who will provide instruction for the remaining eight sessions using materials she developed.
“We define adult beginners as those who are 18 years or older and have no prior experience with piano or with music,” Edwards-Henry explained. “I will critique every student teacher, and guide the overall progress of the class.”
Only 10 spaces are available and will be filled on a first-reserve basis. Cost for the program is $100.
Edwards-Henry said the program concludes Nov. 30 and class will not meet Oct. 5, when students and faculty are on fall break. Sessions will take place in Building C of the music department complex on Morrill Road in Starkville.
