The recently renovated Poindexter Hall, located on the campus of Mississippi University for Women, earned two preservation awards by the American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Association.
The work done by local firm Pryor & Morrow Architects and Engineers, PA was noted at the International Interior Design Association Delta Regional Chapter’s Interior Design Excellence awards recently held in New Orleans. Poindexter Hall was recognized with an Award of Recognition for Renovation for Historical Preservation.
The second honor, which came from The American Society of Interior Designers, was presented at the conference and awards gala in Little Rock, Ark. Poindexter Hall garnered the Silver Award for Renovation for Historical Preservation.
“Both awards recognize our great effort to respect the historic fabric of Poindexter Hall through meticulous attention to detail and carefully selected interior finishes. This was a primary priority both during design and construction process,” said Ben Kavalsky, project director at Pryor & Morrow Architects and Engineers, PA.
Nora Miller, chief financial officer and senior vice president for administration at The W, added, “We are so proud of the recent renovation of historic Poindexter Hall. The interior finishes and seating in the Connie Sills Kossen Auditorium are so beautiful – they help to set the atmosphere for every performance in that venue. Pryor & Morrow did an excellent job in the renovation and interior design for Poindexter.”
Poindexter Hall was built in 1905 and is one of many buildings on The W’s campus that is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Named for Weenona Poindexter, the building serves as the home of the Department of Music and is the site for many community performances.
