Perhaps it’s those little chocolate silver bells that my brother and I would stuff into our pockets as tiny boys, or the glistening silver tinsel with which Mama dressed our childhood tree for the holidays. Maybe it’s just this time of year, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas to me. Everything is getting a dusting of silver sparkle this season, and that should include you!
The eyes will twinkle this December with spectacular eye shadows in silver, shining brightly well into the night. One of my favorite ways to decorate the eyes for the holidays is to smudge a creamy metallic silver shadow onto the lids, dust a shimmery shadow along the upper and bottom lash line, and then wrap the lashes in several coats of black mascara. It’s a surefire way to make your season merry and bright.
Naughty or nice, I’m sure Santa will only be paying attention to the shiny silver nail color on your fingers and toes when caught under the mistletoe. I love anything that sparkles, shimmers and glitters any time of the year, but most especially this season.
A bit of silver goes a long way, whether it’s an ornament for the tree or for yourself, so adorn your hairstyle with a silver jeweled clip, comb or headband. Nothing says glamour more than a warm, cozy winter hat, and if you can’t find a silver one in your closet, rummage through an antique store, flea market or a grandmother’s jewelry box for a sequined broach bound to add a silver lining to any boring ensemble. Spread the holiday magic with a say-something silver scarf, earrings or purse from a consignment shop. Be bold, be daring, and by all means be jolly this season with the allure not of silver and gold, but of silver and old.
One of my fondest memories from childhood is lying underneath the twinkling lights of our family’s Christmas tree, staring up into the branches wishing time could stand still. The icicles of silver my mama tossed onto the pine needles reflected bright shimmers of light and beauty, and that’s just what I wish for you and yours this holiday season — light and beauty.
