I love gardens. The tulips in my neighbor’s lovely little cottage garden all stand at attention this time of year, nodding into the wind and signaling that spring is upon us. For as long as I can remember, flowers and I have been in a whirlwind romance. It’s a love affair I cherish, whether it’s a bundle of pink stargazer lilies taking center stage on my dining room table or a bouquet of roses in delicate hues on a nightstand to wake to each morning, I’m in love.
That love of pastels is not just blooming in the gardens or crystal vases any longer; makeup palettes also have floral fever. There’s no better time than now to have a little spring fling with eye shadows. Christian Dior stopped me in my tracks with the most breathtaking showcase of color, capturing the essence and beauty of nature in its fresh, new collection aptly called “Garden Party.”
I have been smitten with Dior since Carrie Bradshaw stumbled and fell, literally, in the flagship store in Paris in one of my favorite episodes of the fashionable series “Sex and the City,” and now with the new collection for spring 2012, I’m falling, too.
Inspired by the amazing gardens surrounding the designer’s home in Granville, Normandy, Dior has stolen my heart with the Garden Clutch, a sweet pink clutch that carries three colorful eye shadows, two lip glosses and a double-end makeup brush. It’s like a mini bouquet of fresh blooms and right at your fingertips, so perhaps the most difficult decision will be selecting either Milly Garden or Granville Garden. Oh, and just when you think you cannot get enough, for the nails there are also Water Lily, which is a light green, and Forget-Me-Not, a soft lilac. Because it’s all about the gardens this season, it’s rose scented. Catch me if I faint.
So, when you think of all those luncheons or outside soirees you’ll be invited to this sunny season, pluck a few of the new garden-inspired makeup gems, swirl some pastel color on your eyes and nails, and be that flower that dazzles us all.
