We don’t have to look much further than the spring 2012 fashion runways for the most coveted hair trends of the coming season. The hairdo thermometer is hot, and the mercury is rising. Whether it’s your favorite fashion designer’s catwalk coiffures or the best runway of all — yours — here are the buzz-worthy hair looks raising temperatures internationally and in our neck of the woods.
At Ralph Lauren, Bill Blass, Monique Lhuillier and BCBG, the hair was off the face, pulled back and oftentimes even wet for a “slicked back” effect. It’s one of my favorites, for nothing shows off the beauty of a woman’s face better. Luca Luca, Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs went a bit more whimsical with “wraps” tied in loosely for hairstyles that definitely turned heads. Nothing grabs attention faster than a beautiful scarf used as a head wrap.
Nicole Miller, Lacoste, Rag & Bone, Michael Kors, Rachel Zoe, Calvin Klein and Carolina Herrera’s models strutted the runways with center parts, bringing back a clean, simplistic approach to beautiful hair. I have always said a middle part is the best way to add a modern edge to any hairstyle. If you are more of a deep side part kinda gal, you are right in tune with Christian Siriano, Charlotte Ronson, J. Mendel, Derek Lam and Jill Stuart as they sent models down the runway with a nod to the mod deep side part, another of my favorites for switching gears on a hairstyle just for heck of it.
At Diane Von Furstenberg, Alberta Ferretti and Rodarte, it was all about “retro” with barrel-curls, pin-curls and teased chignons. Nothing says glamour better. Backstage at Thakoon, the hair was dyed neon green; Narcisco Rodriguez donned all the heads stark white; and Marchesa went pink for the “bold color” trend of the moment. Not for the faint of heart, but fashion rules were meant to push the envelope, right?
Models for Cynthia Rowley, Proenza Schouler and Helmut Lang worked the catwalks with “gym hair” that literally looked messy, tousled and put away quickly with a barrette or even several of them attached. The next time you are late for a date right after pilates, just tell him that gym hair is all the rage.
Last but not least, top knots were all the rage at LAMB, with the hair twisted into little buns on the side, on the top and everywhere a top knot could be fastened. Gwen Stefani created this line, so naturally it would be just as eccentric and current as her music.
Well, from runways all over the world, fashion rocks, and with one or more of these hair trends, so will you!
