“Vintage” is a word that keeps popping up in conversation lately. Vintage has always been in my vocabulary. I love antiques, and if you see me about town most likely it will be lusting after a French armoire or drooling near a pair of Louis XIV candelabra.
We learn so much about the present touring the past perhaps, both with dicor for the home and with hair and makeup. Lanctme just announced a new vintage shade of red lipstick for the holidays, and nothing is more vogue right now than vintage hair accessories.
The primetime Emmys aired last week, and the stars were adorned with old Hollywood glamour. Finger waves are making a huge comeback, not so structured and less lacquered, but definitely molded into the pageboys of today.
Even longer hair is elegantly swept to one side with deep ridges of finger waves framing a fancy face, possibly finished off with a jeweled bobby pin. Headbands are all the rage with a nod to the past, as well. Rhinestones, sequins, tulle and even lace are just a few inspirations for headbands and clips, borrowing a bit of glitz from yesterday.
If I only had five minutes to dress up a face for evening, it would be a cat-eye drawn over the upper lash line, wider at the outer corners with a vintage wing. If I had only one minute, it would be nothing but a perfect pouty lip in bright red. When going red, remember to cheat a little by lining the outside of the lips with a nude lip liner to prevent bleeding, and add tons of glass-like gloss to keep the red lips from aging you. Think modern with a wink to vintage, the best of now and then.
So, there you have it, the buzz of the moment carried over from the past — something old made new again!
