Well, they didn”t come down from the mountain, and I”m not Moses, but here they are, 10 beauty “commandments” for wrapping up the summer.
1. Thou shall soak up more moisturizers with built-in SPF of at least 15, preferably 30, before soaking up the sun. It”s like two steps in one.
2. Thou shall wear oversized sunglasses not only to get your style on, but to guard against future fine lines and wrinkles around eyes caused from squinting. Just do it!
3. Thou shall avoid tanning salons like the plague. Regardless of what the “expert tanners” say, it”s dangerous to the skin. Most dermatologists will tell you tanning beds are more harmful than the actual sun itself. Besides, you don”t want to look like last season”s croc bag when you are older, right?
4. Thou shall not forget to cover the hair when exposed to more than a few hours of bright sunlight. With all the stunning scarves and adorable caps at your local boutiques, it”s a fashion statement that can prevent your hair from frying. Not a good scene.
5. Thou shall indulge your hair with a moisturizing hair mask left on the hair for up to 45 minutes. Your locks will thank you for it. I promise.
6. Thou shall spoil yourself with a pedicure just because you deserve it, but mostly because nobody wants to see those neglected toes in this summer”s sandals. No, not for a minute.
7. Thou shall take a nap, read a novel, or just enjoy a slow walk through the garden, perhaps barefoot for no other reason than because you can. Sounds good to me.
8. Thou shall invest in a new fragrance. Nothing marks a season full of memories better than a scent you enjoyed at the beach or wore to a summer wedding. Nothing takes you back quite like a beautiful scent.
9. Thou shall laugh because laughter is my favorite emotion. Buy a book of silly jokes and keep it handy for a good belly-churning giggle or two, especially on stressful days.
10. Thou shall read my column outdoors in the shade, maybe near the perfumed blooms of a rose bush, and share it with a friend or two, all while being beautiful.
