Columbus councilmen voted to give themselves a 23 percent pay raise during their meeting Tuesday despite applause from people in attendance for members who announced they would vote against doing so.

Less than 20 hours after it fired its superintendent, the Columbus Municipal School Board of Trustees met Tuesday to begin looking for an interim superintendent and a new chief financial officer.

Mississippi State University baseball broadcaster Bart Gregory had a brief conversation with his father, Larry, early Tuesday morning. "I told him to pack his bags because he was coming here," Bart Gregory said.

During Tuesday's city council meeting, Ward 2 councilman Joseph Mickens called on city engineer Kevin Stafford to explain three invoices due from the city. The documents were linked to Micken's former election opponent Susan Mackay.
